Are you looking for a quiet place to take the family to drop a fishing line or pitch a tent this summer?

Puskus Lake, pictured above, is located just seven miles east of Oxford, off of Highway 30.

The lake is part of the Puskus Lake Recreation Area, which is public land managed by the U.S. Forest Service. According to the Forest Service, national forest land is spread across 1.2 million acres across the state.

Puskus Lake is a remote 96-acre lake stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie and catfish. The facilities there also include 19 primitive campsites, 13 picnic sites, a boat ramp, fishing piers and a 1-mile hiking trail. It is open year-round unless weather conditions require it to be closed. It is a fee area, and there is an unattended fee station just beyond the entrance for visitors ($3 per vehicle for day use; $7 per vehicle for camping).
