Recipe by Kimme Hargrove

2 sticks butter, melted

2½ cups sugar, divided

1½ cups self-rising flour

¾ cup milk

2 teaspoons vanilla

6 tablespoons cocoa

2 cups water

Heat oven to 350°F. Pour melted butter into a 9x13 baking dish (or one slightly smaller).

In a large bowl, mix together 1½ cups sugar, flour, milk and vanilla to form a thick, pancake-like batter. Pour and spread batter over melted butter in baking dish.

In a small bowl, mix together remaining 1 cup sugar and cocoa. Using a spoon, sprinkle mixture over the top of the batter.

Gently pour 2 cups water over the top of the entire mixture.

Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour until the top becomes slightly firm. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
